Health Advisory: Measles Cases Reported in Minnesota
There have been 18 confirmed cases of measles in Minnesota, including at least two in Dakota County. No cases have been reported in District 196 schools. However, measles spreads quickly and can be serious. Early symptoms include fever, cough, runny nose, and watery eyes, followed by a rash. We encourage families to ensure their children are up to date on all recommended vaccinations. If you have questions about immunizations or your child’s vaccination status, please contact your health care provider or your school nurse. We are committed to providing students with health conditions access to their education by facilitating their independence and creating a community of support by working collaboratively with the student, their family and district staff. School nurses promote optimal student health for optimal learning.
Establish healthy habits early to ensure your child’s success
Instilling healthy habits and routines (adequate sleep/nutrition) and consistent attendance ensures a student’s success in school even as early as kindergarten. We know that too many absences/tardies, for whatever reason, can cause children to fall behind both academically and socially.
To help ensure healthy habits consult with your health care provider regarding well-visits and immunizations, as well as maintain good hygiene.
For students with a health concern:

Make sure your child’s health concerns are shared with the school and their school nurse directly

Work with your school nurse to obtain any healthcare provider orders or other necessary documentation
- Keep parent/guardian contact information and emergency contact information updated in the Campus Parent Portal
- Notify the school nurse with any changes in your child’s health status as soon as possible
